The PUNCH: Ahead of the May 29 handover, the Defence Headquarters on Monday vowed to resist anything that would truncate democracy. The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, stated this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja, just as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, threatened to crack down on potential threat to national security and warned the Indigenous People of Biafra, Eastern Security Network and other fringe groups not to test the will of the military.


The Guardian: After one week of what could be referred to as dust storm, leading groups from the three geopolitical zones that form the major tripod on which the country stands – Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa – in strong statements, yesterday, joined voices in condemnation of an interim government, which abruptly crept into national discourse after the Department of State Services (DSS) disclosed that plots to truncate the current democratic dispensation were real.


This Day: The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, yesterday, issued a stern warning to violent groups across the country to desist from threatening the sovereignty of the nation, because the army would do everything within its power to contain all forms of threats against Nigeria. Yahaya, who gave the warning in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Conference 2023, also hinted that operations against saboteurs had raised oil production to 1.3 million barrels per day.


The Nation: The governors-elect are raising issues on loans, spending pattern and projects being undertaken by governors. In Abia State, the situation is intense where Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) is battling Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
