There was pandemonium in Lagos on Wednesday over the killing of an officer of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly by some commercial motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada riders.

Reports reaching Naija News at the moment revealed that the incident happened along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway. At least three guns belonging to the police were allegedly hijacked.

The detail of the incident is still sketchy as of reporting time. Daily Trust, however, reported that the body of the killed cop was found around Cele Bus Stop.

A journalist who was around the area told the publication that at least five patrol vehicles filled with fully armed policemen arrived at the scene immediately and were pursuing the okada riders towards Second Rainbow/Mile 2 along the expressway.

The riders were also seen brandishing objects like cutlasses, sticks, and iron rods as they fled from police arrest.

Six Killed In Ghastly Accident, N27 Million Recovered From Dead Passengers 

Meanwhile, no fewer than 14 people were involved in a ghastly accident involving two vehicles, with N27 million recovered from the scene.

Naija News learnt that the accident occurred on Wednesday along the Ipetu-Ilesa road in Osun State, near Iwaraja junction.

Confirming the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command spokesperson in Osun, Agnes Ogungbemi, blamed the accident on dangerous driving and over-speeding.

According to her, six passengers were killed, while seven others were severely injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

She said a commercial Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration KTU 896 HX collided with another commercial Opel vehicle with registration number GBA 440 XA.

Ogungbemi added that the millions of Naira recovered from the dead passengers have been handed over to their family members.

She said, “The nature of the crash is multiple. Seven people were injured, six people were killed, seventeen people were involved but one of the passengers was not injured.

“the injured victims were taken to Wesley hospital Ilesa while corpses were deposited at the same hospital morgue.

“Our men recovered N21,900 that belongs to driver who drove one of the vehicles, the money was handed over to Nigeria Police Force, Ijebu Ijesa as their operatives towed the vehicles to their Station.

“We also recovered the sum of N27,171,400 from the scene which have been handed over to the victims’ family members.”
