Opposition Reps-Elect Hold First Meeting, Adopt “10th Assembly, Greater Majority” Slogan

The House of Representatives Members-elect from various opposition political parties held their first meeting on Tuesday night.

According to them, the meeting was just to network and familiarise with themselves ahead of the inauguration of the 10th Assembly.

Naija News gathered that present at the meeting were reps from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Social Democratic Party (SDP) Youth Progressive Party (YPP), and New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

The opposition reps-elect at the meeting unanimously adopted the slogan: “10th Assembly, greater majority.”

Present also were the most ranking lawmakers, like Nicholas Mutuas as well as fifth timers like Beni Lar (PDP-Plateau) and Wole Oke (PDP-Osun), as well as third timers like Jonathan Gaza, Abdulmumin Jibrin (NNPP-Kano), and second-timers like Bamidele Salam (PDP-Osun) among others.

Speaking during the opening remark of the meeting, it was gathered from Nigerian Tribune that Dachung Bago (PDP-Plateau) paid homage to the top-ranking lawmakers, while Fred Agbedi, in a brief remark congratulated all the members of the opposition parties, and admonish them to see Nigeria as their constituencies.

Bago expressed optimism that the Minority Caucuses “will achieve what nobody thinks we can achieve,” while noting that the meeting was organised “to enable us to network and familiarise ourselves.”

The PDP chieftain advance that the minority caucuses are having greater numbers to deepen the role of the opposition in the House considering the outcome of the 2023 general election.

“I believe with our numbers, our doggedness and our strength we can achieve a lot,” Beni Lar noted.

Lar was positive that the likes of Abdulmumin Jibrin will not succumb amidst oppression while urging all the Minority Caucuses to remain united.

She harped on the need to define their collective interests and friendship in order to strengthen the democratic structure in the 10th Assembly.
