2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons Beats Australian Club 8-1 In Warm-Up Match
The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated an Australian club, Lions FC in an 8-1 thriller match on Saturday morning ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
The Nigerian national women’s football team are camping in Australia ahead of the competition starting less than a week from today.
Naija News reports that Super Falcons would play their first match of the tournament on Friday, July 21, against Canada and thereafter take on co-hosts Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
In their warm-up match this morning, Barcelona Femeni forward, Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring streak with a brace, while Ifeoma Onumonu, Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade, Halimatu Ayinde, Uchenna Kanu and Gift Monday also add to the scoreboard with a goal each.
Nigeria is in Group B and will play their opening match at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Australia against Canada.
Naija News reports that this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup will be the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The competition starts Thursday, July 20 and would run through to Sunday, August 20, 2023. 32 teams from 6 confederations would compete for the trophy.
