Manchester United Agree To Pay £47.2 Million For Andre Onana
Manchester United have agreed to pay Inter Milan £47.2 million for the services of Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Andre Onana, 27-year-old, will cost the Old Trafford side £43.8 million up front and a further £3.4 million in add-ons.
Manager Erik ten Hag made a bid for the goalie at the end of the season after previously working with him at Ajax.
Andre Onana is expected to sign a five-year deal with an option to extend it by a year which means that the 27-year-old Cameroonian goalie could stay at Old Trafford until 2029.
Onana spent seven and a half years at Ajax before transferring to Inter Milan in July 2022 on a free transfer.
In 24 Serie A games while at Inter who finished third last season, the Cameroonian goalkeeper amassed eight clean sheets. He also led the club to the Champions League final where they were defeated by Manchester City.
After buying midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55 million, Onana will be United’s second summer addition.
The Premier League giants are currently without a first-choice goalkeeper after the club failed to extend the contract of Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea who is currently without a club.
In the previous 12 seasons after joining the team under Sir Alex Ferguson, De Gea appeared 545 times as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.
De Gea left Manchester United with a club record of 190 clean sheets and might head to Saudi Arabia to continue with his goalkeeping career.
