Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is currently in Rome to represent his principal, President Bola Tinubu, at the United Nations Food Systems Summit.

Naija News understands that the event commences today, Monday, July 24 and is expected to end Wednesday, July 26.

It is Shettima’s first official visit to the country since the incumbent Nigerian leadership was inaugurated.

Shettima was met at Leonardo Da Vinci Airport at 7:45 PM Italian time by some Nigerian diplomats, the Director of Information, Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, revealed.

The welcome party included the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy, Mfawa Omini Abam, the Head of the Consular Department of the Nigerian Embassy in Italy, Ugochukwu Onuzulike, and the President of the Nigerian Community in Rome, Chima Ibezim.

The vice president, who was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Office of the Vice president and other government officials, had departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja Sunday afternoon.

He is expected to proceed to St Petersburg, Russia to also represent President Tinubu at the Russia-Africa Summit which commences this week as well.

At the Rome event, the Vice President will join other global leaders for the first Stocktaking Moment (STM) Summit-themed “Transforming Food Systems for People, Planet and Prosperity.”
