'I Commend Tinubu' - House Of Reps Speaker Reacts To Appointment Of Cardoso As CBN Governor

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas is planning a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The aim is to address the issues raised by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and prevent a potential industrial action.

During a discussion with NARD leadership on Monday in Abuja, Abbas also announced the establishment of a special committee.

This committee, led by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, is tasked with engaging all stakeholders to resolve the concerns.

Additionally, all medical professionals within the House will join the committee.

The immediate past chairman of the 9th House Committee on Healthcare Services, Tanko Sununu, will serve as the Deputy Chairman. The Speaker instructed the committee to immediately take action.

Resident doctors previously carried out a five-day warning strike in May due to unmet demands. In July, NARD provided a two-week notice to the government for the implementation of all its requirements.

Abbas asked the resident doctors during Monday’s meeting to allow the House leadership two weeks to find solutions to the issues.

With the 10th House inaugurated only a month ago, the Speaker requested the doctors’ patience.

The National President of NARD, Dr Innocent Orji agreed to the Speaker’s request and stated they would inform their members about the Speaker’s stance.
