Super Eagles: Defender Mutes Critics With First Goal

After just a season at Dutch giants, Ajax, Nigerian fast-rising center-back Calvin Bassey is on the verge of completing his move to Premier League club, Fulham this summer.

Before now, Calvin Bassey, who has been subjected to a series of criticism especially from Dutch pundits, didn’t want to leave Ajax, a club he joined from Glasgow Rangers last summer.

He intended to remain at the club to prove that he is worth the €23 million that Ajax paid for his services barely a season ago.

Amidst his intention to play for more seasons at Ajax since he still has until June 30, 2027, before his contract expires, two Premier League clubs, Brighton and Fulham kept pushing for his signature.

Due to the uncertainty concerning the transfer deal, Fulham had Southampton and Ghanian defender Mohammed Salisu as an option should Bassey fail to join them this summer.

Fortunately, Ajax accepted their €21 million offer for Bassey and the Dutch club convinced the Nigeria international to accept the move to the Premier League club for the good of his football career which he did.

Earlier today, July 26, Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted that “Fulham are closing in on Calvin Bassey deal — medical has been booked, deal in place for €21m. He’s always been the favorite option over Salisu as new left footed CB”.

He added, “Final details being sorted and then… here we go confirmed.”
