Australia Vs Nigeria: President Tinubu Shows Support To Super Falcons
President Bola Tinubu has sent his best wishes to the Super Falcons as they prepare to face Australia in their second group game at the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Following a goalless draw with Canada in their opening game on Friday, the Super Falcons will play co-host to Australia in their second Group B game later today, July 27, at 11 a.m.
Currently, Canada are topping the group with four points in two games after beating the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday. Australia are sitting second with three points and the Super Falcons are third with just a point.
Hence, the nine-time African champions must beat Australia to stand a chance of qualifying from the group.
In a statement titled: ‘Message to Super Falcons at FIFA Women’s World Cup’, signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, on Wednesday, Tinubu assured the Super Falcons and the coaching staff of Nigerians’ support.
According to the statement, the President “takes immense pride in the Super Falcons’ impressive performance in the opening match against Canada, a formidable opponent and the reigning Olympic Champion,” just like other football lovers in the country.
He also challenged the team to continue exemplifying Nigeria’s attitude of determination and excellence both on and off the field, to serve as worthy ambassadors of the country.
“He firmly believes that the upcoming match on Thursday will be a thrilling encounter that will culminate in victory for the Nigerian team,” the statement added.
After the game between the Super Falcons and Australia later today, the Nigerian team will play their last group game against the bottom-placed team of the group, the Republic of Ireland on July 31.
