Niger Coup Leaders Appoint New Governors For Eight Regions
Military juntas in Niger Republic have appointed new governors for the eight regions of the nation.
Naija News reports that the spokesperson of the coup leaders, Amadou Abdramane, made this known during a press conference on Tuesday.
Abdramane named the appointed governors as follows.
Agadez – Brigade General Ibro Boulama
Dosso – Brigadier General Iro Oumarou
Diffa – Brigadier General Ibrahim Bagadoma
Niamey – Brigadier General Abdou Assouman Harouna
Tahoua – Major Colonel Oumarou Tawayé
Maradi – Inspector General of Police Issoufou Mamane
Tillabery – Lieutenant Colonel Maïna Boukar
Zinder – Colonel EF Labo Issoufou
Meanwhile, the White House said on Tuesday that it had no indication that Russia was behind last week’s coup d’état in Niger.
The spokesman for the US Presidential National Security Council, John Kirby, stated this while speaking to reporters in Washington DC.
Kirby added that the United States has not changed its position on its presence in the country, having not identified any threat to its citizens.
He also said that Washington had not yet made any decision on the future of aid provided to Niger.
