Social Media Regulation: What Dele Alake Said During Ministerial Screening

There was a mild drama on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday during the screening of Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy.

Alake, who is one of the 28 ministerial nominees of the President for screening, was also the former Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

During the screening, the presidential aide was asked a series of questions bordering on Social Media, Culture, Tourism and Information.

In his question to Alake, the Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadikwon commended him for his feat not in Lagos but as one of the pro-democracy agitators during the military rule.

The lawmaker representing Plateau North Senatorial District, thereafter, asked the ministerial nominee to recite the second stanza of the national anthem.

In defence of Alake, Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, asked Senate President Godswill Akapabio to let the nominee “take a bow and go.”

This caused a mild drama on the floor of the Senate but Akpabio came to the rescue and shielded Alake from reciting the second stanza of the national anthem.

The Senate President, however, asked Alake to take and bow and leave the Red Chamber.
