'I Think The Federal Government Made A Mistake' - Orji Kalu Speaks On Tinubu's Tax Reform Bills

Former governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to reconsider their decision on embarking on nationwide strike.

Naija News reported that the organised Labour Unions decided to embark on strike on Tuesday, October 3, after the failure of the Federal Government to implement policies to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

The organised labour unions had made demands from the Federal Government following the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit.

Among other things, the NLC and the TUC are asking for wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.

Reacting to the planned strike, Kalu, in a message via his Facebook page on Thursday, pleaded with NLC to avoid anything that will crumble or hurt the economy.

The senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, also urged State Governors to distribute the palliative, which the Federal Government has made available.

He said, “I still plead with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

“Anything less than activities to promote the economy would hurt the nation more than ever. I also appeal to the state Governors not to distribute the palliatives made available by the Federal Government by party membership but to everyone in the state.”
