Former Man United Captain Picks Arsenal Over City In EPL Title Race
Former Manchester United star, Gary Neville has predicted that Arsenal could win the English Premier League title for this season ahead of Manchester City.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the Gunners snatched a 1-0 victory in their game against City on Sunday, Neville said the defending champions may not be able to sustain the tempo this season.
Explaining the reason behind his prediction, the ex-England international suggested that the hangover from winning a treble last season may just affect City’s chances this current season.
In his view, City who have now suffered back-to-back league losses for the first time in five years may just have taken their foot off the pedal after claiming the treble (Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League) last season.
He said: “The reason I predicted Arsenal to win the title is because I felt they got close last year, I thought they’d be close again and I thought there’d be a slight treble hangover for City.
“What’s City’s cause this year? They’ve achieved utopia, they can’t do any more. When you’ve fought so long and hard to win a Champions League like they have and won the treble and repeated what Man Utd have done, there’s got to be that little bit of a sigh of relief.”
