Super Eagles Coach Describes Napoli’s Video Against Osimhen As “Worst”
Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has frowned at the videos Napoli shared on their TikTok page to mock Victor Osimhen for missing a penalty in September.
Recall that when Osimhen lost a penalty against Bologna in September, Napoli shared two videos on TikTok, one showing the 24-year-old begging for a penalty and then missing, and another one in which the club described him as a coconut.
Though Napoli have issued a statement to insist that they didn’t intend to mock Osimhen, the Super Eagles coach told Sky Sports that “from the outside is one thing but a video from the club, that is the worst. That cannot happen”.
Speaking further about the incident involving Osimhen who scored 26 goals and provided 5 assists to help Napoli win the Scudatto for the first time in 33 years last season, Peseiro said, “He was sad because it is not easy for anyone. He does not understand it. He does not understand why.”
The Super Eagles coach who said he has spoken with Osimhen to offer him support after the incident urged the striker to understand that he is now “a star” and the demands placed on him are high.
He added, “Osimhen is a star. Two years ago, he was not a star. Now, he is a star. And when you are a star, everybody wants more, more, more. The others can do badly but if Osimhen does bad it is different because people demand more from the players who can do more.
“It was a bad thing that Napoli did. Of course, he would prefer they do not do it. But my advice is to stay calm. Do not play against the fans. Do not lose balance. Keep the mentality. Keep the personality. That is what the very best players do. And he can be at the top.”
On the fame of Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles coach said, “When Osimhen goes to Nigeria, everybody wants to touch him or speak with him or wants a picture with him. And not just in Nigeria. Everywhere…
“He is a strong guy, a smart guy, and an amazing player, defensively and offensively. He can do everything. He pressures the center-backs, he pressures the line by running in behind. He can attack the ball in the air and on the ground. He is motivated, quick, and strong.”
