Tinubu Asks Senate To Confirm New EFCC Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in an official communication to the Senate on Tuesday, has asked the Upper legislative chamber to screen and confirm Ola Olukoyede and Muhammad Hammajoda for appointment as chairman and secretary respectively of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Naija News reports that Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Recall that President Tinubu, on Thursday, October 12, appointed Olukoyede as the new EFCC chairman for an initial term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the president’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, stating that the citizen was considered for the position following the resignation of the suspended executive chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Ngelale also confirmed the appointment of Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC for an initial term of five years, subject to Senate confirmation.
The Senate is yet to fix a date to screen and confirm the duo.
