Anthony Joshua’s Promoter Insists Fury Robbed Francis Ngannou, Boast Of AJ
Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua’s boxing promoter has argued that Cameroonian cross-over heavyweight boxer, Francis Ngannou defeated British boxer, Tyson Fury.
On Saturday night, October 28, Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, who is a former UFC heavyweight champion, met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a non-title fight.
To most spectators of the bout including Eddie Hearn, Ngannou dominated the bout even though it was his first time in a professional boxing clash. The fact that the Cameroonian dropped the Briton in the third round added to most people’s belief that the former UFC champion was robbed of the victory.
However, two of the three judges scored the fight 96-93 and 95-94, in favour of Fury. While one judge scored the fight 95-94 in favour of the Cameroonian. Hence, Fury who has not suffered any form of defeat in his 35 career fights, emerged victorious.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel, Hearn insisted that Ngannou won “by two rounds” even though he claimed that the Cameroonian boxer wasn’t that impressive.
“I am lost for words”, Hearn said. “Francis Ngannou has never boxed before and fair play to him, I didn’t think he was overly impressive, but Tyson Fury looked like he’d never laced up a pair of gloves before.”
He added, “He got dropped in the third round, he never threw a punch and Ngannou never threw a punch after. I thought Ngannou won by two rounds. The boxing world has gone mad.”
The promoter stressed that the boxing world should be pushing for a Fury v Joshua fight instead of the Fury v Usyk bout which could take place in Riyadh on December 23.
Hearn argued that if AJ can’t get Fury, the WBC champion should have a rematch with Ngannou as he insisted that the Cameroonian ought to win Saturday’s bout.
“Forget Fury vs Usyk, no one is interested. Just give us Fury against AJ. AJ will knock Tyson Fury out inside six rounds. Make the fight, otherwise, we’ll never get it”, the promoter boasted.
“Or, just rematch Ngannou because the guy deserves to have one of the greatest wins. I don’t know what I was watching, I don’t know what Tyson Fury was doing.”
