INEC Speaks On Kogi Governorship Election Amidst Call For Cancellation
The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, Prof Dani Adam, has described the just-concluded governorship election in Kogi State as free, fair and credible.
Adam made this claim in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday, despite the call for the electoral body to cancel the governorship election.
Naija News understands that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dino Melaye, and his counterpart in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Ajaka, have called for the election to be cancelled.
Melaye and Ajaka, at different times, claimed that the electoral process was filled with manipulation.
Adam, at the presentation of the Certificate of Return to the Governor-elect, Ahmed Ododo, and his deputy, Joel Oyibo, at the INEC state head office, Lokoja, insisted that the election was credible and even verifiable by all.
The Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet, said there is no doubt about the election’s credibility, adding that “declaring Ododo and Oyibo the governor-elect and deputy governor-elect respectively was the best thing to do.”
He called on all other contestants to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship and join hands with the governor-elect and deputy governor-elect to enable the people to reap the dividends of democracy.
