The Adamawa State Government has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government at the Supreme Court, challenging deductions from the Federation Account.

The state is seeking an interpretation of Section 162 (1), (2), and (3) of the Constitution concerning the distribution of revenue.

In a statement released Wednesday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the government asserted, “The entire sum in the Federation Account must be distributed among all levels of government without deductions, except as permitted by law.

The state government emphasized the President’s obligation to adhere strictly to the Constitution in revenue management and distribution, insisting that “all revenue collected, except those exempted by the Constitution, must be paid into the Federation Account for distribution to all tiers of government.”

Adamawa is seeking a Supreme Court declaration that any deductions or withholdings made without constitutional backing be deemed unconstitutional.

The Federal Government’s discretion to manage revenue is limited to only what is expressly permitted by the Constitution,” the government stated.

The state aims to ensure a strict interpretation of the Constitution to prevent arbitrary deductions or withholdings by the Federal Government in revenue distribution.
