Terrorists Plan To Attack Critical National Infrastructures - Nigerian Military Reveals

The Nigerian Military has unveiled plans by terrorists who are members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to attack some critical national infrastructures in the country.

This revelation was made public on Thursday during a press conference by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba.

He, however, added that relevant security agencies have been put on standby to forestall such attacks.

General Buba also called on citizens to rally support for security forces to defeat terror in Nigeria.

Buba said, “We are aware of some of the plans to target some critical infrastructure in the country. Accordingly, we have emplaced measures to forestall such plans.

“Security agencies responsible for securing critical infrastructure and facilities have also been placed on alert. Accordingly, some of such plans have been frustrated.”

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) image maker said the insurgents are enemies of the country who must be defeated. He emphasized the readiness of the security forces to deal with all such threats.

“These terrorists are the enemy that must be fought and defeated. They are responsible for keeping the nation in an almost constant state of counter terrorism and counter insurgency,” Buba said, adding that the terrorists “Will not stop doing what they are doing, until they are stopped.”

He added that “In this fight, citizens must understand that, we must never compromise on security, otherwise everyone’s security will be compromised. This is a situation that cannot be over emphasised for us to live in safety and security.”

While asking for the support of the citizens in the fight against terrorists, the DHQ spokesperson vowed that they would not leave any stone unturned in the task of securing the nation and its citizens.

“We recognise and have included this as part of our strategy to win the war. Overall, we have no choice but to fight for the safety and security of our citizens. We also fight to safeguard our nation and preserve our way of life as a people. For us as a force, Defence is the essence of what we do as an armed forces.

“Accordingly, we would defeat the terrorists on the battlefield and help our nation flourish again,” General Buba said.
