Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, is set to embark on a one-month vacation starting Thursday, July 18, 2024. During this period, Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe will take over gubernatorial duties.

The announcement was made during a joint executive and legislative meeting at General Muhammadu Buhari House in Katsina.

The formal vacation request was presented to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and read by Assembly Chief Whip, Ibrahim Dikko.

Governor Radda’s request cited Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which authorizes state houses of assembly to approve such requests from the executive branch.

The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, who led the Assembly members and local government chairmen to the joint meeting, expressed best wishes for Governor Radda’s vacation.

He noted the significance of this constitutional process, stating, “It is noteworthy that this marks the second instance in Katsina State’s political history where a Governor has sought constitutional approval for a vacation and formal handover to the deputy. The first occurrence was during the late Governor Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s second tenure.”

Governor Radda, while addressing the assembly, urged the people of Katsina State to support Acting Governor Faruk Jobe during his absence.
