Friedkin Group: Everton FC Loses Second Buyer In Less Than One Year

For the second time in less than one year, Everton have lost the opportunity of having a new owner after ending their negotiations with Friedkin Group.

Since June 2024, Friedkin Group and Everton, through Blue Heaven Holdings, have been having exclusive negotiations over a 94.1 per cent stake in the club. Unfortunately, they were not able to reach an agreement.

Earlier today, July 19, the Premier League side said, in a statement, that the talks between them and the American company have ended. But that wouldn’t affect their transfer plans this summer as they have enough funds to execute the club’s short-term plans.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri have been making efforts to sell the Premier League side due to financial difficulties. He was so close to achieving that with American investment firm 777 Partners but the negotiations collapsed in May.

Most Everton fans were excited when Friedkin Group led by $6.1 billion-rich Dan Friedkin entered the picture. They were looking forward to being financially buoyant through the deal like how the Friedkin Group has made Italian Serie A side, Roma stable since the group took over the club in 2020.

But that will not be the case for Everton as the club’s management continues to hunt for a long-term solution to the club’s financial instability.

A statement from Everton reads: “Following a period of exclusivity, discussions between Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group over a potential sale of a majority stake in Everton have ended and The Friedkin Group will not be progressing with a purchase of the club.

“Both Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group entered discussions in good faith to explore whether a sale could be agreed. Those discussions have concluded. The parties agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options.

“The Friedkin Group will remain a lender to the club and is proud to have played a key role in enabling the new stadium to be built, which will help ensure a bright future for both Everton and the City of Liverpool.

“Blue Heaven Holdings maintains a positive relationship with The Friedkin Group and would like to thank them for the time and effort they have put into this process.

“When there is further news to share, it will be provided via the club’s official communication channels.”
