Victor Osimhen Snubs ‘End Bad Governance In Nigeria’ Protest, Celebrates Napoli
Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen snubbed the ongoing End Bad Governance In Nigeria protest as he took to his Instagram story to celebrate Napoli’s 98th anniversary.
Victor Osimhen is arguably the most famous footballer from Nigeria currently. Like most Nigerian celebrities, the 25-year-old striker whose future at Napoli is uncertain, has decided to stay away from the ongoing nationwide protest in Nigeria.
Note that earlier today, August 1, 2024, thousands of Nigerians stormed the streets to agitate against bad governance, hardship, and other socioeconomic issues.
Since the protest started against security warnings, there have been reports of violence, looting, and other vices linked to the anti and pro-government protesters.
Amid the unrest, Victor Osimhen, who is the reigning Africa Player of the Year winner, took to his Instagram story earlier today to share a graphic to mark Napoli’s anniversary (established on August 1, 1926). He simply captioned the graphic with a blue heart emoji.
At the time of writing this report, the Nigeria international has not made a public comment about the ongoing nationwide protest.
Note that Osimhen has been playing for Napoli in the last three seasons.
Unfortunately, following his unprecedented performance in the 2022-2023 season in which he scored 26 goals and provided five assists in 32 league games, he and the club agreed to part ways if any of his suitors pay for his €130 million release clause this summer.
Recall that his said performance helped Napoli to win the Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.
Due to the price tag the Italian side placed on Osimhen, none of his suitors have been able to sign him, as his future in Italy continues to hang in the balance even though he still has until June 30, 2026, before his contract officially expires.
