PDP: I’m Still In Race For National Chairman – Suswam
Former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has said he is still in the race to become the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gabriel Suswam, who is one of the PDP national chairmanship aspirants, stated this on Thursday, during an emergency stakeholders meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Suswam noted that it was right for the North Central to replace the former national chairman, Iyochia Ayu, in line with the party’s constitution.
He explained that he had gotten the backing of the state’s party members. He argued that the national leaders of the party would select who will replace the former national chairman and it will not be through any election.
The former governor of Benue dismissed reports of crisis within the party in the state.
He explained that some mischief makers wanted to hoodwink and take control of the party in the state.
He added that the PDP would have won the 2023 governorship election if not for the activities of some mischief makers.
“Some people want to hoodwink us because they want to control the entire party structures in the state.
“Their actions led to the comprehensive defeat of the party in the last polls and we must stand firm not to allow them to have their way again.
“What they are enjoying is a short-term victory as you cannot build anything on nothing.
“It is only the ward congress that was genuinely conducted in 15 LGA in the state that will stand,” Suswam said.
