A 58-year-old man named Bamidele Omolayo has tragically taken his own life by ingesting a chemical substance believed to be a ‘snipper’ in Ondo State.

The sad incident happened in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Naija News learnt that the remains of the deceased was discovered on Thursday near a farming area in Igburowo town.

The sudden death of the father to four children has plunged the community into deep sorrow, with many residents gathering at the site to view his remains.

Before this heartbreaking incident, Omolayo was said to have engaged in a brief disagreement with family members, during which he expressed suicidal thoughts.

A source informed Daily Trust on Friday that he left his home early in the morning, and notably, no suicide note was found.

However, a bottle containing the substance was located next to him.

“After his body was found near the farm, we quickly reported the case to the police at the Ore Area Command and they came to the community to evacuate the body. They deposited it at the morgue of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital,” the source said.

A police source also told journalists that some family members of the deceased had been invited for questioning.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation had begun.

“The police are aware of the report of suicide but we do not have details of what led to it. Investigation will unravel it,” she said.
