CAF Mourns Sudden Passing Of Ugandan Match Official, Peter Kabugo
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden death of Ugandan Premier League match official Peter Kabugo, who collapsed and passed away during a football match at Wankulukuku Stadium in Uganda.
In a statement shared on Sunday via X, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe extended heartfelt condolences to Kabugo’s family, the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA), and its president, Moses Magogo.
“The CAF President Dr. Motsepe conveys his and CAF’s deepest condolences to the family of Peter Kabugo, Federation of Ugandan Football (‘FUFA’) and its president Moses Magogo and Ugandan people,” the statement read.
Motsepe acknowledged the grief that Kabugo’s sudden passing has brought to the football community and offered words of comfort to all affected by the tragic loss. “May Peter Kabugo’s soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
In other news, the federal government has debunked claims that Nigerians are getting subjected to harassment and ill-treatment in Libya as a result of the recent ruling by CAF, which awarded the Super Eagles three points and a fine of $50,000 against Libya following a botched 2025 AFCON qualifier.
There had been reports that following the CAF verdict issued in favour of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, authorities in Libya had begun arresting and ill-treating Nigerians in the North African nation.
However, a statement issued on Sunday by the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, said reports available to the government show otherwise.
It stressed that Nigerians in the North African country were going about their normal businesses.
