The 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

Naija News understands that the meeting is part of the US leader’s commitment to a smooth transition of power after the Republican’s significant electoral victory.

Biden and Trump will meet in the Oval Office at 11:00 am (1600 GMT), as announced by the White House on Saturday, with the countdown to the former president’s return to office in January underway.

Trump achieved a remarkable comeback in the November 5 election by defeating Democrat Party candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.

This victory solidified a political landscape in the United States dominated by his assertive and often controversial right-wing policies for over a decade.

At 78 years old, Trump secured a larger margin of victory than in previous elections despite facing a criminal conviction, two impeachments during his presidency, and warnings from his former chief of staff labelling him a “fascist.”

Exit polls indicated that the primary concern for voters remained the economy and the inflation that surged under Biden’s administration in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden, who withdrew from the race in July due to concerns regarding his capacity to serve at the age of 81, reached out to Trump to extend his congratulations following the latter’s electoral success.
