Breaking: National Grid Collpases Again, Nigerians Lament

Gombe, Bauchi, Benue and Plateau have been affected by power outage due to a fault on the 330kV double circuit transmission lines of Ugwuji-Makurdi-Jos.

Naija News understands that the affected northern states are within the franchise area of Jos Electricity Distribution Company.

In a statement on Friday, the Head of Corporate Communications, JEDC, Friday Elijah, said the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s engineers are currently working to rectify the fault.

Elijah apologised for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for the customers’ patience.

He said, “The tripping of the lines occurred this afternoon at about 1221 hours today, Friday, 15th November 2024, resulting in the loss of power supply on all our 33KV feeders.

“TCN engineers are already assiduously working to rectify the faults.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the fault is rectified and power supply is restored back to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”

Gov Eno Fires Ibom Power MD

In other news, the Awka Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has sacked the Managing Director and CEO of Ibom Power Company (IPC), Meyen Etukudoh, from his role with immediate effect.

Naija News reports that the termination was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and made available to journalists in Uyo.

According to the statement, Eno’s decision to dismiss Etukudoh aligns with an ongoing restructuring initiative aimed at aligning the state’s power sector with the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

Etukudoh was instructed to hand over to the Commissioner for the Ministry of Power, who will oversee the company’s operations until further notice.

The governor expressed his appreciation for Etukudoh’s service to the state and extended best wishes for his future endeavours.

The decision to remove Etukudoh comes just hours after he released a statement attributing the recent statewide power outage, which began on Wednesday, to a dispute between Ibom Power and its gas supplier, Savannah Energy Company.
