Police Clash With Terrorists In Borno
The Nigeria Police Force has reported that its personnel in Borno recently thwarted an assault on the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters by a group of terrorists.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the attempted assault took place on November 28 at approximately 1:00 AM.
Adejobi, however, said the police operatives mounted a robust defence against the assailants.
According to him, this resistance resulted in several of the assailants sustaining various degrees of gunshot wounds, while one police officer was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Additionally, he mentioned that operatives from the Police Command in Sokoto State, in conjunction with other security agencies, conducted operations on November 25, targeting several identified hotspots and bandit camps within the state.
According to Adejobi, this operation aimed at dismantling the camps led to the recovery of multiple AK47 rifles and several magazines, each containing 30 rounds of live ammunition.
He stated that the occupants of the camp fled upon realizing the presence of the operatives, but efforts are ongoing to capture the escaping members.
Furthermore, Adejobi reported that operatives from the Police Command in Delta engaged suspected kidnappers in a gunfight on November 28.
He confirmed that the police operatives successfully overpowered the suspected kidnappers during the exchange of gunfire, compelling them to retreat into a nearby forest with significant bullet injuries.
Adejobi reported that the operatives promptly initiated a pursuit of the suspects following an attempted kidnapping incident in Asaba.
He noted that a subsequent search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the seizure of three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action shotguns, and one AK-47 magazine.
Additionally, eight rounds of live AR ammunition and 21 live cartridges were recovered from the vehicle.
Adejobi stated that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the courageous operatives for their dedication, commitment to their duties, and bravery in confronting danger, which facilitated these recoveries.
The Inspector-General urged police officers to maintain their courage and persist in thwarting the schemes and activities of individuals with criminal intent in the nation.
