Scores Killed As Troops Encounter Terrorists In Zamfara
Troops of the Nigerian Army reportedly eliminated scores of terrorists in a recent operation in Zamfara State.
According to a statement from Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Joint Task Force, troops engaged in Operation Fansam Yamma on Sunday, December 1, 2024, where they effectively eliminated a significant number of terrorists through coordinated ground and aerial operations.
Naija News learnt that the operation was initiated following an urgent request for assistance from local residents and vigilantes in the village of Yar Galadima, located in the Maru Local Government Area.
The statement noted that at around 5 a.m., troops based at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara received reports of an active terrorist assault on Yar Galadima village.
The troops swiftly mobilized to the location to offer support and restore order.
While advancing towards the village, the troops encountered terrorists at two distinct ambush sites. These locations were successfully cleared, resulting in the neutralization of multiple terrorists while others managed to escape.
The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma dispatched aircraft to deliver close air support to the troops on the move. Air strikes effectively targeted and neutralized the retreating terrorists, leading to considerable losses among the assailants.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating terrorist threats in Zamfara State, as well as in the wider North West region and Niger State.
