High Court Rules On Yahaya Bello’s Bail Application
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has rejected the bail application filed by a former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Naija News reports that the High Court Judge, Justice Maryann Anenih struck out the bail application of Bello on Tuesday morning.
The judge struck out the application on the ground that it was filed as of the time the former governor was yet to be taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The application was filed on November 22 while the former governor was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency on November 26 and arraigned on November 27, 2024.
Justice Maryann said the action was against section 158 of the administration of criminal justice Act 2015 which states that application for bail can be filed after arrest, arraignment or during hearing of a suit.
But in this case the application was filed even before the defendant surrendered himself to the Anti-graft agency and his arraignment.
The judge therefore dismissed the application in its entirety.
