The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed displeasure over happenings in the court case on the alleged ₦80 billion fraud case involving the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

Naija News reports that the Abuja Federal High Court on Friday, granted Bello bail in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties in like sum.

This was after Bello pleaded not guilty to the 19-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting via a post on X, Sowore lamented that Bello became a hero within the courtroom after the judge granted him bail.

The activist described Nigeria as a paradise for thieves.

Sowore wrote: “Yahaya Bello is granted bail and is the instant hero in the courtroom! Just loot enough to bankrupt the poor and enrich the elites; you then become the hero of the poor and the rich. NIGERIA is a paradise for thieves.”

Naija News reported that the presiding Judge, Emeka Nwite, in his ruling, ordered Bello’s two sureties to swear to an affidavit of means and must be owners of Properties in Abuja.

In addition, the title documents of the properties, which must be in Abuja, will be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

Justice Nwite ordered that the ex-governor must deposit his international passport with the court, while he and his two sureties are also to deposit two recent passport photographs with the court.

He also ruled that Bello be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
