Transfer News: De Jong Decides On Manchester United Deal

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong said he could only leave the Spanish giants if they no longer have the potential to win major titles.

Also, Frenkie de Jong, who joined FC Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, made it clear that his decision to part ways with the Catalan giants would hinge on his perceived ability to contribute to the team’s success on the pitch.

Currently, the 27-year-old Dutch international holds a contract with Barcelona that extends until the summer of 2026, yet he has not yet signed an extension with the club, leaving room for speculation about his future.

Over the past couple of transfer windows, particularly last summer, his future came under intense scrutiny, with many reports linking him to a potential move to the Premier League side Manchester United.

De Jong famously rejected a move to Manchester United two summers ago, even amidst Barcelona’s attempts to push him out of the club. Ultimately, he chose to remain at Camp Nou, where he established himself as a crucial member of the starting eleven.

In recent seasons, De Jong’s performances have been pivotal for Barcelona, though he did face challenges last season due to injuries that disrupted his playing time.

In an interview with Voetbal International, De Jong addressed the ongoing rumors concerning his commitment to the club, saying: “People think I want to stay at Barça forever because life outside football is so good here, and it is good.”

“However, that aspect is less important than what happens on the pitch. If I ever feel that I can’t contribute enough, or if the team can’t compete at the highest level, I would make the decision to leave.”
