'Use Local Hospitals, Don't Visit Lagos Alone, Reconsider Tax Reform Bills' - Peter Obi Sends Fresh Message To Tinubu

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider some of the policies and strategies of his administration.

He also urged the President to reconsider some of his personal actions, noting that he is no longer the Governor of Lagos State but the leader of the entire Nigeria.

As part of his submissions on Thursday morning, when he held a press conference in Abuja on the state of the nation, Peter Obi charged President Tinubu to spend festive seasons in other parts of the country apart from Lagos so as to feel the pain of the people.

The former Anambra State Governor also urged President Tinubu to travel by road once in a while to feel the deplorable state of roads in the country. Obi recalled how he took President Olusegun Obasanjo from Awka to Onitsha by road as Governor of Anambra State, which led to the award of the contract for the road.

Obi also decried the challenges of insecurity in the country, lamenting that several Nigerians have died needlessly as a result of banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.

The LP chieftain said the recently increased new minimum wage has not solved the economic challenges in the country, and condemned the prevalence of poverty among the citizens, which he blamed for the recent stampedes during private palliatives distribution in parts of the country.

On the proposed tax reform bills, Obi said the government must first make the country productive before taxing the people. He added that the bills must be thoroughly debated.

Cut Corruption

Obi decried the high level of corruption in the country and advised President Tinubu to lead by example and cut the cost of governance.

Obi said Tinubu should use local hospitals and visit educational institutions in the country to ascertain the level of development in the nation’s educational and healthcare sectors.

The former Governor lamented the rising public debt under the current administration. He said borrowings must be tied to projects that would bring development to the country as against the current template of borrowing for consumption while government officials must desist from mismanaging public funds.
