Even If You’re Not A Manchester United Fan, It’s Awful To Watch Them – Mikel Obi
Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has expressed his disappointment with the performance of Manchester United players following their recent 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, a match that marked United’s fourth consecutive loss.
The Premier League game took place at Manchester United’s Old Trafford, where Newcastle’s dominance was apparent from the outset.
The scoring began in the early minutes when Alexander Isak found the back of the net just four minutes into the match, setting the tone for a challenging evening for the Red Devils. Joelinton then extended Newcastle’s lead to two goals in the 19th minute, leaving United to struggle for the remainder of the match.
In his assessment on the Obi One podcast, Mikel did not hold back his criticism, stating, “Even if you’re not a United fan, it’s awful to watch them. They’re horrendous. Newcastle could have easily been 3-0 up within the first 20 minutes. It was a disaster.”
He emphasized that he did not believe the blame for this poor showing lay with the manager, Ruben Amorim, whom he described as a “fantastic and brilliant young manager.”
Instead, Mikel pointed to the quality of the players, saying, “I’ve said it when he came into the club – the players at United, I’m sorry, they are nowhere near good enough to be playing for Manchester United.”
On a different note, Nigeria winger Moses Simon has been recognized for his outstanding performance by being named Nantes’ Player of the Month for December. Simon received this honor after an impressive showing, where he bested fellow teammates Douglas Augusto, Nicolas Cozza, and Matthis Abline in the voting process, securing 44% of the total votes cast.
Despite currently recovering from an injury, Simon managed to make a significant impact on the field, contributing one goal and one assist in just two appearances during the month. He will be officially presented with his award before Nantes’ home match against AS Monaco at the La Beaujoire stadium on Friday, January 10.
Note that this isn’t Simon’s first accolade this season; he also clinched the Player of the Month award in September. Throughout the season, Simon has impressively registered a total of four goals and five assists in 14 appearances for Nantes, highlighting his crucial role in the team’s performances.
