Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed condolence on the demise of former Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), Professor Nuhu Yaqub.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Saturday, the former leader described the deceased as a “scholar of exceptional merit,” emphasizing that his significant contributions to Nigeria’s intellectual and academic landscape will be remembered.

Naija News reports that Professor Yaqub, who was also the founding Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Sokoto, passed away last Saturday at the age of 74.

Buhari conveyed his profound sadness regarding the passing of the esteemed academic, underscoring his substantial impact on education, public policy, and national progress.

“I have known him for many years as a towering scholar whose knowledge, passion, and insights on public policy were taken very seriously by serious administrators,” Buhari said.

The former president commended Yaqub for his significant contributions to the nation’s intellectual landscape, which he achieved through his dedication to teaching and research.

He further remarked that Prof. Yaqub’s legacy will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.

“Professor Yaqub had left an indelible mark on the nation’s intellectual landscape through his works in teaching and research,” the statement read.

“He was a scholar par excellence. May Allah grant him Aljannah.”
