Former Secretary to the Government of Kwara State (SSG) and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Saka Abimbola Isau, has passed away at the age of 69.

Isau, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, died on Saturday at a hospital in Adewole, Ilorin, following a brief illness.

A close ally of former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, Isau served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during Saraki’s administration.

Known as a staunch loyalist of the Saraki political dynasty, he was a prominent figure in Kwara politics and sought the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP in 2019, later stepping down for Razak Atunwa.

Despite his underlying health issues, including diabetes and high blood pressure, Isau was reportedly hale and hearty the day before his passing.

On Friday, he participated in a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Ilorin Juma’at Mosque Central Working Committee.

He is survived by his wife and four children, one of whom is also a lawyer. His burial is scheduled for Sunday, with Janazah prayers to be held at his family home in Gaa Aremu, Ilorin.

Tributes Pour In

The news of Isau’s death has drawn tributes from across Kwara State. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a condolence message, described him as a distinguished lawyer and committed public servant.

“Alhaji Saka Isau will be remembered for his remarkable service to Kwara State as SSG and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. I pray to Almighty Allah to admit him to Al-Jannah Firdaus and uphold his family,” the governor said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.

The Speaker of the 8th Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad, mourned the loss, describing Isau as a pillar in the political and legal communities.

“We have lost a renowned son and reputable arbitrator in the late Alhaji Saka Isau,” he stated.

He asked Allah to accept the return of the late PDP chieftain and place him among the inhabitants of Aljanatul Firdaus.
