Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists launched a devastating attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, killing an unspecified number of Nigerian soldiers and leaving many others missing.

The attack occurred on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with sources describing the assault as intense and prolonged.

Security sources who spoke with Sahara Reporters disclosed that the terrorists stormed the Sabon Gari camp under the 25 Taskforce Brigade around 4 a.m., wielding an array of sophisticated weapons.

“The terror group invaded the camp FOB Sabon Gari around 4 a.m. on Saturday, using various weapons. The attack lasted over two hours, and so far, we have recovered over seven bodies,” a source told SaharaReporters on Monday.

During the attack, the insurgents razed multiple buildings and destroyed operational military vehicles, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The assault highlights the increasing influence of ISWAP in the region, particularly since the death of the former leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau.

Following Shekau’s demise, ISWAP has strengthened its hold around Lake Chad, attracting defectors and expanding its operational base.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army says it is committed to wiping out the terrorism from the country.

The terror group has killed many people and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
