Former Sunshine Stars Coach, Kennedy Boboye has made a notable return to Akwa United as the head coach, marking his second tenure with the team.

Kennedy Boboye officially signed a short-term contract that will see him through the remainder of the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season at the club’s secretariat in Uyo on Monday.

Boboye initially joined Akwa United during the 2019-2020 season of the NPFL. During his first term, he made a significant impact, culminating in a triumphant victory as he led the club to win the NPFL title in the following season.

This achievement added to his impressive coaching credentials, as it was his second NPFL title, having previously guided Plateau United to secure the title in 2017.

The 50-year-old coach is set to start his work with the team later this week, aiming to harness the potential of the squad and strive for success in the league.

In other developments, Heartland FC has commenced its training regimen in preparation for the second half of the 2024-25 NPFL season. The Naze Millionaires recently returned from a brief break as they observed a week-long holiday for the New Year festivities.

On Monday morning, the players and technical staff gathered for a training session held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The team shared their enthusiasm for the new training phase on social media platform X, stating, “We are back and better.”

Note that Heartland finished the first half of the season in 14th position, accumulating 22 points, indicating a critical need for improvement as they look to climb up the league standings.
