Stampede: Oyo Court Denies Bail Applications Of Ooni’s Estranged Wife, School Principal
The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has denied the bail applications of the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi.
The duo faces charges related to the tragic children’s festive party held in December 2024, which resulted in a stampede claiming the lives of at least 35 children.
Justice Olawoyin, presiding over Court 8 at Ring Road, Ibadan, adjourned Naomi’s case till next week, following a plea by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, for more time to conclude investigations.
A source at the court who spoke with SaharaReporters revealed, “The court did not grant the bail application of Naomi and the school principal because the Attorney General pleaded that the state should be given more time to investigate.”
Meanwhile, the court is set to decide on the bail application of the proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat.
Hamzat, along with Naomi and Fasasi, is also under investigation for the events that led to the stampede at the ill-fated party held at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.
The court resumed hearing on Tuesday under heavy security, with the prosecution team led by Prof. Oyewo.
