Troops Eliminate Notorious Terrorist, Sani Russu In Zamfara

Troops of the 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralized a notorious terrorist leader, Sani Russu, in Zamfara State.

Naija News reports that the military also achieved significant successes in multiple operations, leading to the recovery of arms and ammunition.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday in Gusau by the Coordinator, Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi.

According to the statement, troops conducted a fighting patrol on January 4 in Bamamu village, Tsafe Local Government Area, where they encountered terrorists. The operation resulted in the neutralization of the notorious terrorist kingpin, Sani Russu.

The troops also launched an ambush operation on the same day, acting on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

During the operation, several terrorists were neutralized, while others sustained severe injuries. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.

In a separate mission, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma carried out airstrikes on December 30 in the Fakai and Kware areas of Shinkafi. These strikes targeted a meeting of terrorists led by Bello Turji, following intelligence reports of their gathering.

Further air operations were conducted on January 2 in Maikaman Rini, Sububu Forest, targeting the camp of another terrorist kingpin, Ibrahim Chumo, in support of ground troops. On January 5, the troops launched additional offensives against Bello Turji’s camp in the Chida area of Shinkafi.

Aerial surveillance revealed that these operations inflicted significant casualties on the terrorists, injuring several and destroying their hideouts.

Lt. Col. Abdullahi reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to neutralize terrorist threats across the Joint Task Force Theatre of Operations and ensure lasting peace in the region.

He also called for continued cooperation from local communities to achieve the operation’s mandate.

“The joint task force remains resolute in maintaining peace and security across the region,” he stated.
