National Grid Suffers First Collapse In 2025, Triggers Nationwide Blackout
Barely ten days into the new year, Nigeria’s national power grid has experienced its first major collapse of 2025, plunging the nation into a widespread blackout.
This is the 13th grid failure in the past 13 months, and many Nigerians are frustrated by the recurring outages.
Reports from the Punch indicate that power generation plummeted sharply, dropping from 2,111.01 megawatts at 2:00 pm to just 390.20 MW by 3:00 pm.
The Energy Podcast confirmed the collapse in a post stating, “National grid suffers major collapseā¦ First in 2025.”
A follow-up update announced that restoration efforts had commenced, with 302 MW already being generated by 2:40 pm.
More details on the grid failure and ongoing restoration efforts are expected soon.
