Lawmakers Remove Lagos Assembly Clerk As Thugs Invade Complex
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have suspended the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko.
Naija News reports that this followed the removal of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa was impeached over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The lawmakers subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, was elevated to the position of Speaker.
While taking her oath, the new Speaker said: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly;
“That I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
According to Vanguard, Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the assembly by Obasa. Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the assembly.
Meanwhile, armed personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS; Lagos Task Force, and the Police have taken over the premises and environs of the Lagos State Assembly.
Some miscreants, who were trying to invade the complex, were intercepted and arrested by the security personnel and clamped into waiting Black Maria.
Charms and amulets were also recovered from the miscreants believed to be supporters of Obasa from Agege.
