Bauchi Gov Gifts Top JAMB Performers ₦4 Million
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has granted a total of ₦4 million to four exceptional indigenous students who achieved remarkable results in the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
Governor Mohammed, represented by the Head of Service, Yahuza Adamu, emphasized that this initiative is designed to motivate other students to pursue academic excellence.
Naija News reports that the awardees, Kawthar Shehu (348), Geoffrey Yakubu (347), Abdullahi Garba (347), and Magaji Umar (333), were honoured during a ceremony on Tuesday, January 14, at the Ministry of Education in Bauchi.
Each student received ₦1 million to assist in their pursuit of higher education.
“This gesture demonstrates our administration’s commitment to investing in human capital development and encouraging outstanding academic performance,” Governor Mohammed said.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ali Babayo, revealed that the ministry initiated the idea to motivate students across the state.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has accused the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of misusing public funds to seize land and properties from small-scale farmers and urban dwellers, allegedly under the guise of redevelopment and commercial farming projects.
During an interview with Liberty TV, Tuggar criticized the governor for his comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration and urged him to focus on governance instead.
“When it comes to money issues, the governor should not put his mouth there because the earnings and allocation he is getting has doubled but we have not seen any improvement, no change in what he is doing,” the Minister said.
He further disclosed that Governor Mohammed received ₦8.8 billion federal allocation in October 2024 and an additional ₦9 billion in November but has failed to provide any accountability for the funds.
“Instead of using the money for social services and infrastructure, such as education, health, and addressing out-of-school children, he is busy using such funds to buy properties and land from the poor citizens of Bauchi. This affects both the rich and the poor,” Tuggar alleged.
