Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared Friday, January 17, 2025, a work-free day for public servants ahead of the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.

The directive, issued in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, is aimed at enabling residents to travel to their respective communities to participate in the polls.

“The Ondo State Government has declared Friday, 17th of January, 2025, as a work-free day for public servants in the state to enable them to travel to their various communities to exercise their civic responsibilities,” the statement read.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also urged stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

PDP Withdraws From Polls

The local government elections have faced a setback with the withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, the PDP expressed a lack of confidence in the process conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).

Despite the development, ODIEC assured the public that the withdrawal would not disrupt the electoral process, reiterating its commitment to a credible election.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the election, the Ondo State Police Command announced a restriction on vehicular and motorcycle movement across the state from 6 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
