Nigerian Police Suspend Intelligence Bureau AIG Lafia, Enforce Salary Freeze
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia, effective January 9, 2025, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).
According to SaharaReporters, a wireless message, signed by the Force Secretary and addressed to all departments, units, and commands, confirmed the suspension and emphasized that AIG Lafia must strictly adhere to regulations governing police officers under suspension.
The directive, titled “Suspension and Interdiction AP. NΟ. 41804 AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia”, referenced a decision from the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM) dated January 9, 2025, in line with the Public Service Rules (PSR) 100406, 2021, as amended.
Additionally, the Force instructed the AIG in charge of Budget and Payment to take immediate steps to halt Lafia’s salary during the suspension period.
The official communication, dated January 10, 2025, further outlined that the suspension was to ensure compliance with established disciplinary procedures while the case is reviewed by the FDC.

Abduyari Lafia, who has been serving as the AIG overseeing the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja since February 2023, now awaits the committee’s decision on his case.
