I've Made Up My Mind That If This Is The End, So Be It - Peter Obi

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has revealed the inspiration behind his extensive investments in education, healthcare, and empowerment programs.

Speaking during a visit to the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi, Rt. Rev. Ndubisi Obi, Peter Obi, explained his decision to commit over ₦1.5 billion to humanitarian initiatives in 2024, emphasizing that his generosity stems from genuine concern for humanity rather than any quest for self-promotion.

Highlighting specific instances, the former Governor of Anambra State mentioned donations of ₦10 million each to Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor for the College of Nursing Sciences in Amichi and to Bishop Ndubisi Obi for ongoing projects at ADON College of Health Technology in Nnewi.

These contributions, he said, are part of his broader commitment to addressing critical societal needs.

He revealed that the driving force behind his philanthropy is the noticeable difference it makes and the ability to contribute meaningfully to individuals’ lives.

The Labour Party chieftain recalled his history of philanthropy, saying, “Even before my public life, I have always derived satisfaction from contributing to worthy causes that uplift humanity. For instance, I was in Haiti after the earthquake, where I contributed to its rebuilding. Similarly, even before I became Governor, I had extended help to places in need according to my capacity.”

Obi also recounted his recent visit to facilities alongside Bishop Ndubisi, including the Diocesan Rehabilitation Centre for drug abuse victims and a school for children with special needs.

He praised the Bishop’s unwavering dedication to serving the vulnerable, noting, “When you witness such dedication to humanity, it is impossible not to contribute – not for personal recognition, but for the sake of humanity.”

Addressing speculation that his philanthropy is a strategy to bolster his public image, Obi dismissed such claims. He explained that giving back is a moral and spiritual obligation and a way of repaying the society that shaped him.

As long as God provides me with the resources, I will continue to contribute to worthy causes,” he affirmed.
