An official of the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been reportedly stabbed by an alleged drug suspect.
According to a statement from the agency’s spokesperson in Kano, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, NDLEA officials had embarked on a raid recently where they confiscated various quantities of illegal drugs.
The statement further disclosed that two individuals, 25-year-old Musa Usman and 24-year-old Buhari Ya’u Bashir, were arrested during the focused operation at Rahama Round in the Bebeji Local Government Area.
They were reportedly apprehended with illegal substances, including 1.1 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 8 grams (38 tablets) of diazepam, and 59 grams (165 tablets) of Exol.
Maigatari noted that during the operation, Musa Usman, who was armed with a dagger, attempted to resist arrest by attacking the officers, which resulted in one officer sustaining a stab injury.
The statement also indicated that the state Commander of NDLEA, Abubakar Idris Ahmad CN, condemned the violent behavior of the suspects and reiterated the agency’s commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding its personnel.
“Attacks on law enforcement officers in the line of duty will not deter us from carrying out our mandate to rid society of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking,” the statement quoted.
It further stated that both suspects are in custody and will face prosecution for drug-related offences and the assault on an officer.
