Appeal Court Upholds Death Sentence For Hotel Owner In OAU Student's Murder

The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has confirmed the death sentence of a prominent hotelier, Ramon Adedoyin, after he was convicted for the murder of a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke.

In its ruling on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the judgment of the Osun State High Court, which had sentenced Adedoyin to death.

The Court of Appeal had previously reserved its judgment on October 29, 2024.

The judgement read in parts, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”

However, the court also quashed the orders for the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the educational scholarship for Adegoke’s children, which had been part of the original verdict.

Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside,” the ruling further noted.

Adegoke’s body was discovered in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel, where he (the deceased) had lodged.
