PDP Comforts Governor Makinde Over Elder Brother’s Death

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has lost his elder brother, Engr Sunday Makinde.

Naija News reports that the 65-year-old Engr. Sunday Makinde passed away in the wee hours of Friday, January 24, 2024.

Engineer Makinde’s demise was announced on Friday in a statement by another younger brother, Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde.

The younger Makinde, who is the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and Head of Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba in Ibadan, said Sunday died in his residence at 3:00 am in Ibadan.

With a heavy heart, I announce the passage of my older brother, Engr Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday 24th of January 2025.

“His sudden death occurred in his Ibadan residence at 3.20am today, Friday 24th January 2025.

“He is survived by siblings, among whom is the Executive Governor of Oyo state, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, children and grandchildren,” it read.

Governor Makinde has yet to issue an official statement on the death of his brother.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, has mourned the death of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Jeremiah Useni.

Professor Yilwatda described the late General Useni as a distinguished soldier and patriot. In a statement on Thursday, he prayed to God to console his family.

His words: “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of General Jeremiah Useni, a distinguished leader, patriot, and true son of Plateau State. His passing is a monumental loss to our state, the nation, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“General Useni was a man whose remarkable contributions spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the development of Plateau State and Nigeria at large. His tireless dedication to the service of our people, particularly his relentless pursuit of peace and progress, will forever be remembered. Through his leadership and vision, he touched many lives, inspiring generations of Nigerians to serve with honour and purpose.

“His legacy as a military officer, parliamentarian, public servant, and statesman stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the betterment of our people and our land. General Useni’s service to Plateau State and the country was not merely in titles but in the countless lives he influenced positively.

“As we mourn his departure, let us also celebrate a life well-lived, one that exemplifies resilience, strength, and dedication to the common good.”
