Cyriel Dessers Laments Over Rangers’ Defeat Against Man United
Super Eagles forward, Cyriel Dessers expressed his disappointment that Rangers did not secure a more favorable outcome in their UEFA Europa League clash against Manchester United.
The Light Blues faced a challenging match on matchday seven, ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils, managed by Ruben Amorim.
Dessers, who entered the field as a substitute in the 70th minute, played a pivotal role in bringing his team back into the game. Just two minutes before regular time expired, he achieved a crucial equalizer for Philippe Clement’s squad.
Demonstrating his skill, Dessers managed to evade the offside trap, allowing him a clear run on goal. With remarkable poise, he took a deft touch before calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner of the net, sending the Rangers supporters into a frenzy.
However, the joy was short-lived for Dessers and his teammates. In a dramatic turn of events, Bruno Fernandes netted the decisive goal for Manchester United just two minutes into stoppage time, snatching victory from Rangers’ grasp.
Reflecting on the match afterward, Dessers shared his frustrations, stating, “It is difficult to take at the end, especially because of the rollercoaster of emotions that we experienced in the closing moments.
“At first, it felt like we were going to leave Old Trafford with a hard-earned point, only to see it slip away in the dying moments, which is incredibly painful.”
Despite the outcome, Dessers maintained a sense of pride in the team’s performance, particularly given the challenging circumstances they faced.
“We can be very proud of the performance we put in today”, he added. “To come to a venue like this with a squad dealing with several injuries even before the match, and then to lose additional players during the game, speaks volumes about our resilience and determination.”
